Plantation for the nation

“The Reen Road Memoirs”

Leona landed a sweet plant nursery job in the hills of Mundaring, where we camped rent free for one month. This is the first thing we saw when we rocked up for day one of the job. Imagine seeing this each morning! The days were pretty much spent potting, pruning, digging, quad driving in intense heat. Good exercise was had and a few pounds were shed .

This was “the field” where the plants grew in peace shaded from direct sunlight and protected from pesky kangaroos.

Leona carrying out daily “graft” tasks.
As we mentioned we got to stay rent free on the farm, but i cleared the spot where we parked. It was a scrap metal dumping point. I had to take it all to the tip…..see below.

Jobs a good-un

One of the many locals taking a dip in the water plant juice.

Leona and Meghan putting pedal to the metal. Check out the video below of the yorkshire hot rod.

Freshly picked figs from the orchard on the daily….

Having a whole farm to yourself for a month does strange things to the mind. When we werent having hosepipe showers in the mosquito ridden plant quarantine, cooking kangaroo stir frys, we would danced like kids till the sun went down.

Next door neighbour.

Leonas quad in the potting shed.

My dirty leg hands. Bare foot is fantastic and feels like getting back to roots.

This was our campsite, art studio and living space for four weeks. I managed to complete three illustration jobs from the studio we converted from an old shed, its the wooden hut to the left of the van.

We shared the studio with wasps, spiders and a scorpion. no shit.

From the outside looking in.
Check out the job below i did for EMI records for the world cup thats being held in Africa!

This was our sending away night, many thanks to Steve and Audrey for really looking after us……(they are the two humans with black tops on!)
and then they were on the move once more………………………
